A person on your team, without the payroll

Everything else on this site is a service: you buy an outcome and we work out how to deliver it. This is the opposite. Here you are hiring capacity — a developer, a writer, an SEO — for a set number of hours a month, working to your instructions on whatever you put in front of them.

The same person each month, so they learn your business, your clients and your way of doing things. That familiarity is the real product. It is also why this suits some businesses beautifully and suits others not at all.

This makes sense when

• You have a steady flow of work. Not one project, a stream of them. If you can genuinely keep somebody busy, this is far cheaper per hour than buying the same work piecemeal.
• You are an agency reselling. Your clients get the work, you keep the relationship and the margin, and nobody has to know how the sausage is made.
• You need a skill you cannot justify hiring for. A front-end developer three days a week is a difficult person to recruit locally and an easy person to book here.
• The work would otherwise wait. A backlog that never quite gets to the top of your own list is exactly what dedicated capacity clears.

The part most people underestimate

You are the manager. A dedicated resource is not a service that runs itself — someone on your side has to brief them, prioritise the work and answer questions. When these arrangements disappoint, this is almost always why: the capacity was bought and then nobody had time to direct it. If you cannot spare thirty minutes a week to keep somebody pointed in the right direction, a managed service will serve you better and we would rather say so now.

Agree the working hours before you start. Set out which hours overlap with yours, how they are contacted, and what turnaround you expect on a question. It takes five minutes at the outset and prevents the most common frustration later.

It is a month, not a task. You are paying for the time whether or not you fill it. Used well that is the bargain of the page; left idle it is the most expensive thing on it.
